After the meeting, I came home and did a haircut, then took my friend to the doctor, came home to another haircut, fixed dinner for the family, and went to Relief Society. Tonight we learned how to make dinner in an old fashioned milk can. It was pretty interesting. Definitely something I want to try when we have a big crowd. A full milk can feeds 40 people. They did one can tonight and we had quite a bit of leftovers. It was fun to get out and talk to people. Especially people I don't get to see a lot in my little bubble at church.
Yesterday, I didn't get any pictures of our ants or our ant hill. I also wanted to show how much bigger our caterpillars are after just 5 days. So, here are some pictures of our insect farm. The ants still kind of make me shiver, but they are fascinating to watch. When I put them in, we had used a rod to leave a tunnel down the center of the ant hill, but they have built all of the other tunnels today. They really are hard workers and they don't give up, no matter how hard things seem.
Tonight I am grateful . . .
1. I am grateful that the rain is making everything so green. I almost feel like I'm back in Arkansas rather than a desert.
2. I am gratefu for good ward members who will take someone they don't know under their wing and then let me know it was a blessing to them. My ward is truly amazing. I feel lucky to be surrounded by them.
3. I am grateful for low fuel lights that get me to look at my gas gauge before it's too late.
4. I am grateful that I know how to do hair. I am grateful for the opportunity it has given me of developing the ability to talk to others comfortably. I remember when I first started cutting hair in school and it terrified me to talk to people while I was doing their hair. I would make a list of questions to ask them hoping that one of them would spark a conversation where they would talk a lot and I would just have to nod. Now I look forward to socializing with people. I enjoy talking to them and getting to know them. It's hard for me not to talk to people when I'm doing their hair. I can't wait to get my salon done so I can do it more.
5. I am grateful for my new salon software. I'm grateful for a brother-in-law who helped point me in the right direction. It's easy to use and helps me keep track of a lot of information.
Tonight I felt God's hand in my life as I took a friend to Relief Society. She had had a bad day and the people in my ward gathered around her and loved her. Even though most of them didn't know her 5 minutes before. I got my dinner and by the time I got back to my table, there was no place for me to sit by her. Everyone else was gathered around her. I sat as close as I could so I could keep an eye on her and make sure she was feeling well, but everyone else was talking to her and making her feel at home. She commented to me, when I dropped her off, that everyone helped her feel so welcome. She thanked me for taking her and let me know that she felt so much better. I know she didn't feel good physically, so it could only have been emotionally and physically. I think that's what the gospel is all about. Loving people and making their lives better. I'm glad I have so many examples of that.
