Father's Day

I do have a lot that I should write about tonight, but I'm just going to do my thanks because it's late, I was up until after 1:00, and I need to get up early tomorrow to try and convince someone to let my kids take swimming lessons even though I forgot to send my check. So, here's why I'm grateful tonight.

1. I am grateful for my dad. I am grateful for all of the things he taught me and all of the things he did for me, even when I wasn't very grateful at the time. I'm grateful that he loved me enough to sit on me to pull my teeth out because that is what needed to happen. I'm grateful that he didn't give in to my begging him not to do it. I'm grateful that he would spend time with us girls even though he might have been more comfortable doing guy things. I'm grateful that he would blow dry our hair to get it ready for curlers and that he would paint our fingernails. I'm grateful that he would put up with our face mask parties and having a houseful of screaming girls. I'm glad that he put up with our hormones and mood swings (not that he had the choice). I'm grateful that he would let us come cuddle with him on Saturday mornings even though he probably just wanted to go back to sleep. I'm grateful that he loved to tickle and tease us. I'm grateful that he taught me about money and how to budget. I'm grateful that he taught me about the gospel and got us up to read scriptures. I'm sure that wasn't fun for him. I'm grateful for all of the good advice that he's given me over the years. I'm grateful to see him as a grandpa to my kids now. One of my kids favorite things about last time we went down to visit family is when we got to ride the train to eat lunch with my dad. I love that he is someone who my kids and I can look up to. I'm grateful that he was always worthy to give us father's and priesthood blessings and that he always seemed glad that we asked. One of my favorite memories is when my dad gave me a blessing before my back surgery when I was 13. I remember being all alone after they wheeled me into the hall and remembering that blessing and that my dad blessed me that everything would be okay. I knew it would be and was able to calm down. I love you, Dad!! I hope you had a great Father's Day (in spite of your drain issues).

2. I'm grateful for Nathan. I love that he is such a great dad to my kids. I love seeing him play with them and tease them. I love that he realized that Owen loved sports and will go out and play baseball and soccer with him in the yard, even though sports are not his thing. I love it when he and Jo talk about horses. It's getting to the point where I don't understand everything they're saying. I love that he'll think about getting a horse that will give the kids confidence in riding, even though it might not be the horse that he would get for himself. I love that he'll make breakfast on Saturday morning with Zoey and make her feel like she's the best helper ever. I love that Nathan will encourage the kids, when sometimes I have a hard time with that. I'm grateful that he saw that it was my dream to have a salon in my home so I can do what I love and still stay home with the kids and he's making it happen. I'm grateful that you'll go out in the garage at 1:00 in the morning to weld some bolts to put the toilet back in so we could use it today. I love you, Nathan!! I hope you had a great Father's Day.

3. I am grateful that my lesson went okay today. I wasn't supposed to teach today, but Nathan went on a call in the middle of sacrament meeting. Halfway through the closing song, I realized that he wasn't back yet and I would have to teach his lesson. Luckily I had read it over with him last night, but I hadn't prepared anything. I'm grateful for the people in my class that made good comments and helped the lesson go smoothly.

4. I am grateful that I was able to get a nap today after being up too late last night finishing the bathroom to the point that we could use it today.

5. I am grateful that I had time to paint my toenails tonight. It needed to be done. It is sandal season, after all. Painting my toenails always makes the day go better.

I felt the Lord's hand in my life today as I had to take over Nathan's lesson. I was very nervous at the beginning, but I was able to calm down and I feel like we were all able to learn. It was nice.
