Christmas Visiting

Nathan had an idea in December that it would be fun to visit some older people in our area and have them tell us about how they remember Christmas. We decided to do it for Family Home Evening. We called them up and told them we would provide songs, prayers, and treats if they would tell us about a Christmas they remember. We didn't make it to a whole lot of people, but we really enjoyed talking to the people we did go to see. Maybe next year we can start a little earlier and set up more people to talk to.

This is a lady in our ward. She told us that we didn't want to hear about any of her Christmases, but that she'd love to have us come over. We took "The Last Straw" (probably my FAVORITE Christmas story) to share with her and ended up getting her to talk about some of her Christmases. We shared some cookies with her and my kids fell in love with her. They look for her every week at church and you can hear the second they see her.

We also made it to visit with Nathan's grandpa. He told us a Christmas story he had been practicing to tell his high priest group. We have a joke with him that he believes that a cookie isn't a cookie if it doesn't have chocolate chips in it, so we pulled out every recipe we had (and a few new ones) that had chocolate chips in them and made them to take. Another great night.

Like I said, we'll have to do it again next year and start earlier and make better plans. I really enjoyed getting to know the people we visited with better.

Cute idea! I love hearing about things that happened in a "simpler" time. I love how interested my kids are too.
