Painted boards waiting to become the porch railing. I felt like I painted thousands of boards red.
Showing the first signs of green in my front yard. I remember it seeming like FOREVER waiting for grass.
Closer picture of the little tufts of grass.
And longer tufts of grass.
Still more green.
Looking greener.
And here is a picture of part of the railing done and the grass quite green. This was probably taken pretty close to the 4th of July last year. I REALLY wanted to make sure that we had enough railing up that no one would fall off of the porch into the stairwell. It was a HUGE drop. We were still finishing up the railing when everyone showed up. They pitched in and helped us finish before we started the playing. We didn't get to the railing going down the stairs until later.
Here's the railing with all of the slats done around the upper part and the railing going down the stairs.
I just realized that I never got a picture of everything all done, so this picture is from this morning. Sorry about all of the leaves in the yard. Last Fall, it took forever for the leaves to fall. They finally fell the day it snowed, so we didn't get them raked. On the porch, we still need to get a handrail going down the stairs to the salon, but other than that, we're done. Unfortunately, the paint we used decided not to adhere well to the wood. It's peeled quite a bit over the winter, so I will be re-painting some this Spring.
I love how it turned out!! In the pictures, you can also see our poor lilac bush. When they dug it up, they didn't get much of a root ball. It looked dead all spring, summer, and fall last year. We got a few leaves on it at one point, but nothing substantial. I put a lot of root stimulator on it and I'm hoping that with a break through the winter, it will come back. Only time will tell.
